Machine Learning and Agriculture

Brett Drury
Lecture Summary: Agriculture is at a crossroads where gains from traditional sources are predicted to level off by 2050. Consequently agricultural researchers are beginning to use machine learning techniques to allow farmers and farm managers to make better decisions. These better decisions lead to increased yields, and reduced production costs. This lecture will cover current research problems in agriculture and the current research lines that use machine learning techniques to improve decision making.
Bio: Brett Drury is currently the Head of Research at Scicrop an agricultural start-up based in Sao Paulo. Previously, he was an adjunct lecturer and senior researcher at the National University of Ireland Galway where he worked on the ROCSAFE project. He was also a post-doctoral researcher at ICMC under the guidance of Prof Alneu Lopes. He gained his PhD at the University of Porto under the supervision of Prof Luis Torgo.
